Cathy McGill
    Owner & Riding Instructor

Let me introduce myself, my name is Cathy McGill, I am the owner and  riding instructor for McGill Farm and I am thrilled to watch all the wonderful progress we continue to make for our clients and our horses at our farm!!  I have been riding since I was 12 ½, when I purchased my first horse with the babysitting money I had saved for many a year…a whole $350.00!! But that wonderful horse toted this young horse enthusiast for many a year, six or seven to be exact, bareback, from sunrise to dark every summer day and every weekend throughout the year, constantly developing my sense of balance and seat!! After more than 30+ years, I have never tired of learning the ways of horses and what makes them tick!!! I have always loved to just “be” around horses for as long as I can remember and continue to love to watch, ride and observe them.

I have competed in barrel racing and horse competitions in many different areas, for many years winning money, saddles, ribbons and trophies but while I continue to enjoy a little friendly competition, my passion with horses focuses more toward camping and trail riding my horse in the many wonderful state, federal and private parks nestled in the mountains of any state I can get to!! Enjoying nature and all the beautiful creatures, deer, birds, butterflies, armadillos, moose, turtles , beaver, bear, ducks, are just a few of my many sightings and there’s just something about  nature that helps sooth the soul! I have, “Broke” or “Busted” out of the starting gates, racing many a triple “A” race horse, and spent time running many a relay and pony express race in my younger years. I enjoy cutting and sorting cattle with my horse and have always believed versatility promotes a strong bond between horse and rider and rids the boring repetitive sequences one gets into by limiting their selves to just one discipline.  I love training thru natural horsemanship methods and continue to learn and share some of these techniques which are shared with me thru the Parelli system and other great clinicians. I wholly believe you are never too old to learn and this ole gal hopes she is still learning even more new techniques, and able to attend clinics until the day the good lord has me ride into heaven.

As I began my human family, and began volunteer work thru my daughters school, I discovered  great joy in sharing some of my talents and skills with  kids of all ages and began furthering that joy as a substitute teacher. How rewarding it was to teach!!

Now, I have combined those talents, along with my desire and passion for horses, and I feel I have now truly been blessed into the job the good lord intended for me all along, I have combined a life long passion for horses with my desire to share and teach others for the past 10 years, and I now have the best job in the world, teaching and working with horses and humans!!! The past several years of sharing and teaching riding and horsemanship lessons with my students has brought me great joy and I look forward to continuing my passion with my students here at McGill Farm!!
